Anyway they changed the box and I say it's about time! They are way nicer. More like the farscape boxes where all disks are inside on a folder type set up instead of that stupid fold over thing that usually resulted in disks falling out or getting scratched trying to remove them.

I ended up buying season 4 even though I felt parts of it were disappointing.   I wasn't able to DVR last season so I just figured I would want a copy of the episodes I did enjoy.   The only thing I have watched/listened to so far is the commentaries on 4.21 and 4.22.    Is there a Kim Manners tribute?  I haven't found it yet.

Great news about season 4 DVD sales:

Season one opened in 14th place sold 101 thousand units generating 3.404 million dollars and by its 2nd week had sold 150 thousand units and generated 5.265 million dollars in revenue. After that it fell off the top 30.

Season two opened in 15th place sold 56,000 units and generated 2.12 million viewers. And never showed back up on the top 30 list.

Season three opened in 6th place sold 105,000 units and generated sales of 4.2 million (enough if sources are accurate to pay for the full costs of 4 of the 16 episodes produced last year and this is just us sales). It stayed on the sales list for three weeks before dropping of the list. The last bit of data we had was 190,073 units sold and 7,410,946 in total sales.

Now of course all shows do continue to sell after this, and I am sure it continued to generated revenue (just like I assume all of the seasons have), but the bulk of ones revenue for most releases are in the first month.

Now with season four first week, we have 238,081 units sold (already a record for us), and 8,670,910 in revenue generated. If we can judge this by previous season we might stay on this list until we get to 300,000 units sold.

Current first week results for other CW shows.

Smallville 206,341 units sold, and thenuimbers did update this result, the had it initially lower (and the first time since Supernatural started that Smallville wasn't the first week best seller out of any shows on the CW (or for that first year UPN or WB).

One Tree Hill 123,005, units sold
Gossip Girls 104,289 units sold
90210 Didn't make the top 30 selling less then 30,000 units.

And how did these shows do last year.
Smallville 212,511 units sold
One Tree Hill 106,164 units sold
Gossip Girls 95,997 units sold.

What amazes me is not only every show up this year (amazing in and of itself), but with more ways for fans to buy legal copies of these shows and seasons, you would think the DVD sales would get lower.

And with Supernatural having two years of such huge growth, it shows that they have increased (over the last two years) their fan base that is willing to lay down cold hard cash for the product.

That is an amazing breakdown of numbers, sdwhiskey! Still, I'm honestly shocked that Supernatural was able to raise the bar by THAT much. *scratches head*

I think it's wonderful that we are gaining more fans each season! As was mentioned, now people can download from iTunes or wherever, but to have our DVD sales exceed our other seasons and the other CW shows is really awesome.

Also, I saw that most other CW shows have really poor ratings: 90210, Melrose Place, Beautiful Life especially. So our ratings looks very good in comparison. I think if we keep it up, we will be renewed for another season. But we have very strong competition this season, so I'm hoping for the best.

To be frank, I think I tend towards hoping they won't renew the show for another season because I'm really not sure whether it would be worth it. In my opinion the show has lost a lot of its former appeal but I keep watching because I still like the show. But I don't want to drag it on and on just because the big suites like to milk it till it's run dry. I'd rather have five good seasons than ten of which only the first couple of seasons were worth watching.

But we'll see, perhaps they really succeed in keeping the interest up, even after their major Apocalypse story line ends.

Anyway, that's the topic for another thread entirely.

I would like another another season because I want it to go back to focus primarily on Sam and Dean, like the earlier seasons.  I want the apocalypse to end and then them to go back to hunting monsters and urban legends like they used to.

Just so people know: Season 5 first ep is available for free download on iTunes. I got there through Facebook, and it's part of the free fall sampler for TV.

Enjoy.

Try this redemption code: NAYP9Y4WWKWH

I don't know if it will work, but it's worth the shot.

Thanks ghost. I missed this post the other day. Unfortunately it doesn't work. They don't even have season five yet which I didn't realise the other day.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPP!!!

Anyone in the UK having trouble with their season 4 complete set??

The reason why i am asking is that so far i have had to order 2 sets from play.com as both times i have had one half of the full set ie discs 1, 2 and 3 and the other half of the set is volume 2 discs ie 1, 2 and 3 which has practically no special features.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr trying to explain this to them is as much fun as an episode full of just Castiel..lol

i just want to see the gag reel and Jared shakin' his butt...

Lin

ps just bought the set from ASDA and it's the same fault.. am i being a complete idiot in just not looking on the discs for the speacial features or is it the sets. I have infact emailed Warner Bros UK so i will see what they have to say Mind you i will feel a total numpty if the fault is with me...lol

Hey folks,

I just heard a rumor that Target will have all their seasons of SN on sale for 12.99 on black Friday. I don't know if it's true or not, but I thought I'd share just in case.
