The important part of the sitcom, I think, was the lyrics to the opening credits. Kind of the boys' theme this season.

As for the game show, I think it was mainly an attempt by Gabriel to point out their faults, how they've failed as brothers (pointed out by the questions asked). But, if you look at it in that light, the boys prove him wrong by working together to figure out how to win.

Of course, you could apply your theory to the game show too. Sam screws up (by not answering) and takes the hit to the nuts, but then comes through and solves the problem, thus saving Dean the same fate.
in plot terms:
Sam didn't figure out Ruby's scheme in time (failed), got duped into freeing Lucifer (the more proverbial hit to the nuts), but then comes through and helps Dean stop the Apocalypse.

Just a thought.

I like that part about the game-show, it would be like this, neither of them has any idea what they are up against (=they don't understand Japanese/don't really know what the angels are up to) but by working together they overcome a setting that they shouldn't be able to win since they don't understand what's happening.

I'm fairly positive the sitcom was the sn version of the one called 'Perfect Strangers" in the early nineties.
Which in alot of ways is what the boys are now. The opening clips and theme song were very similiar from what I can remember and in it they were cousins that lived together.

I remember that. I used to love that show.

Everyone's been saying that the font of the opening credits was lifted from Full House...but now I'm wondering, did Full House and Perfect Strangers use the same font?

BTW, I noticed something...

The Trickster tells them they have to survive the next 24 hours, and they'll talk.

But, they walk through the hospital, Dean get shot and Sam operates, then they switch to the game show, and Cas shows up...

...and says they've been missing for days.

Interesting. Apparently, Gabriel (gag) lied to them.

Full House? That was the one with the olsen twins right? I actually didn't watch that one much. I have no idea about the font.

I loved perfect strangers too! It was a great show.

What made me think it was perfect strangers was the two person bike and the running around in the park at the end playing football in the opening scene. That and Sam and Dean trying to learn to live together again and the premise of the PS was basically the same thing.
I'm probably overthinking it anyway and it was just an in joke on jared for new york minute..LOL

That reminds me wasn't there another show that had a similiar opening too. The one where the two guys were living in the apartment building as women so they could have the nice apartment or couldn't find an apartment or something along that line. Kind of a Tootsie thing, but not.

That was Bosom Buddies starring a pre superstar Tom Hanks.  I loved that show!!!!!

Btw, I always thought the writers wouldn't be able to suprise me on the show (you know, like Lilith being the final seal had been my guess since somewhere around that first Chuck-episode and stuff) but Gabriel posing as the Trickster? Wow, I so did not see THAT one coming, wouldn't have guessed that in a million years.

So that's something, right?

That was it! I adored that show too! Didn't they have a part in the opening credits where the guys were playing football? I really have a thing for guy buddy shows I guess. Maybe its cos there aren't any girl buddy shows. They are always catty and fighting on tv. Except for friends that was the only one I can think of where the girls got along with each other as well as the guys. You know except for the odd time when chandler has to stay in a box or that sort of thing. LOL

I was just thinking about that.. Angels who lie? I mean, yes, they don't often tell the truth in terms of that they leave the most important parts out but I don't remember one of them actually lying about something.

And I still wonder about how exactly Cas found them. Gabriel is easy, he lured them, but Cas?

Lies of omission are still lies.

Well, Bobby told him where Dean was in 5.03, so maybe the same here, then when he got to town, he just found the Impala. I mean, he can fly, right? It did take him a couple of days.

Of course, they might have told him what to look for in motels. They have patterns.

Or maybe Cas homed in on the supernatural force in town, and guessed that the boys would be there.
